Movie Review
When I know I’m coming up to a long flight I always load my iPad with movies. Normally it’s the usual; Action Adventure, SiFy, Comedies even Drama, but what I really enjoy is documentaries.
On a recent endless flight to San Diego I had a few movies and one documentary. The documentary was “Splinters” the story of how Surfing was introduced to Papua New Guinea. If you say surfing is your life, it’s not; I can prove it watch this film.
The film documents how surfing came to PNG and how it affects everyone’s life on this small south pacific island nation. The film focuses on an upcoming surf competition that will not only crown the best surfers and best club, but will also allow the top surfers to travel to Australia to train for a Pro Surfing carrier.
There are many great characters in the movie and you get an opportunity to see the cultural differences and just how much the young people not only love surfing, but also see the sport as their only opportunity to break out of the simple life they were born into.
This film is really for everyone, weather you a SL surfer, RL Surfer or would just like to see life from another perspective. It’s available on iTunes, On Demand and likely showing at some of the small summer film festivals.
I highly recommend it!
